The "Velvet book" is the last official genealogical book of the Moscow State, compiled in 1682 – 1687 (or 1689).

The story about it should start with an interesting but erroneous article by N. P. Likhachev (1862 – 1936) [Likhachev N.P. . – St. Petersburg: Russian Genealogical Society, 1900 – [4], 14 p.]

Thus, the composition of the "Velvet book" sources, the idea and principles of its compilation can not be considered definitively established, require further study.
