The first church on this site was built in 1600, in memory of the enthronement of Boris Godunov (it happened Sept. 1, 1598, at the day of st.Symeon Stylite). In 1792 – 1813's was built a large new church in classical style. During to the rule of the Bolsheviks church was closed and redesigned for offices. Thus its interior was divided into seven floors, three of which were placed in the drum (these abominable windows and now spoil the grand temple).
