This large white-stone cathedral was built by Italian architect Aristotle Fioravanti, who was invited by the Grand Prince Ivan 3. As an example was given the Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir on the Klyazma (late 12 cent.), but Fioravanti cathedral follow only some common features of the prototype.
Please be aware that the first white stone Cathedral of the Assumption in this place was built in 1327 by Prince Ivan 1 (Kalita). It was one of the first masonry temples of the city.
In my opinion, this very imposing building now have no corresponding environment, very few view points. From the north and west other buildings placed very close to it, and areas on the east and south is clearly not sufficient for visual perception of his greatness.
