Cathedral of the Intercession on the fosse was built in 1555 – 1560 in memory of the conquest of Kazan Khanate. The platform of cathedral at that time was separated from the Kremlin with deep defensive ditch, from which the temple was named. In 1588 the cathedral was completed with chapel of Basil Fool, and the church was called by his name.
View from the west, from former fosse, shows the greatness of the symmetry of this extremely complex composition.
